Messages: Unsubscribe a Supporter

Your users can unsubscribe from messages. You can also manually unsubscribe them if they've asked you to.

When someone is unsubscribed, they will not receive any emails or SMS except for some of the built-in ones.

Do note that some built-in emails cannot be unsubscribed from:

  • Donation and Regular Giving Receipts
  • Regular Giving Welcome, Failing & Failed emails
  • Password Reset
  • User Confirmation

For example, the Donation Receipt: When sending yourself a test message from the Donation Receipt message, the unsubscribe link appears though itโ€™s not clickable and may look slightly different. Don't worry about this, we can assure you that the live message going out to the donors won't include the unsubscribe link as this isn't a possible option for the donor.

๐Ÿ“  Hot Tip: Unsubscribes apply to all custom emails that you create.

Viewing and Changing Subscription Status

To change a user's subscription, find their account in the People tab. Look for the "Subscriptions" box and change the status using the button shown.

Note: Make sure you have a user's consent before re-subscribing them.

Unsubscribing Users in Bulk

It is possible to unsubscribe your users in bulk, which is done through a People Import. Check out the video below that details the process.

Step 1: Unsubscribe a Single User

  1. Navigate to the People section in Raisely
  2. Locate the user you want to unsubscribe
  3. Manually unsubscribe them
  4. Verify that an "Unsubscribed at" date appears in their record

Step 2: Generate an Unsubscribed Users Report

  1. Create a People Report in Raisely
  2. Include the Unsubscribed at field in the report
  3. Export this list to a CSV file
  4. (Optional) Use a separate CSV file containing the details of people you want to unsubscribe

Step 3: Prepare the File for Import

  1. Open the exported CSV file in a spreadsheet editor
  2. Locate the "Unsubscribed at" column
  3. Copy the date value from the manually unsubscribed user
  4. Paste this value into the "Unsubscribed at" column for all users you wish to unsubscribe
  5. Save and export the updated CSV file

Step 4: Re-import the Updated List into Raisely

  1. Go to the People section in Raisely
  2. Select Import to upload the modified CSV file
  3. Map the fields correctly, ensuring that:
    • The "Unsubscribed at" column is mapped to the Unsubscribed Core Field in Raisely
  4. Click Continue to validate the data
  5. Finalise the import process

Step 5: Verify the Changes

  1. Review the updated user records in Raisely
  2. Confirm that the users have been successfully unsubscribed

# How supporters can unsubscribe themselves?

If a supporter wants to unsubscribe from all future communications, they can click on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the message content.

To unsubscribe from only SMS, they simply reply ' STOP' which will unsubscribe them from future SMS. They will still receive messages unless they unsubscribe from the message content.
