Setting Up Payment Routing

There are times when one payment account just isn’t enough. Payment routing enables your donations to be filtered to specific payment accounts. Whether its currency related as you expand across the globe, or for different organisations or fundraising events having their own accounts, you can setup payment routing easily within Raisely. Let’s explore...

Setting Up Payment Routing

Payment routing is a simple setting found within your Payments & Receipts settings. To setup, simply follow these steps:
1
Within your campaign, from the sidebar select Settings > Payments & Receipts
2
Under Gateway Accounts you will see the the account/s you have setup. To setup additional payment accounts simply select Connect New Account
3
Your primary account is set to Default. If you select Edit on your other accounts you will see a Conditions field.
Conditions allow you to setup rules for certain criteria to be met. If the rule fails, then the payment will be processed by the Default account.
4
Simply select Any OR All of the following, then select/enter Condition Field + Rule + Value

For example, you have setup two Stripe accounts to handle payments from both US donors and AUS donors. You have more donors in the US, so your US Stripe account can be your Default. For your AUS account, you can simply select Edit and set up your condition to be:

(Condition) Donation Currency – (Rule) IS – (Value) AUD-Australian Dollar
5
Select the Tick icon and then select Save.

If you wish to change your Default account, simply select Edit on the secondary payment account and select Change to Default button.
There are four different condition options available in the dropdown, including:
  • Donation Currency (selection of currencies)
  • Donation Profile Type (team or individual)
  • Donation Profile (Name of individual or team profile)
  • Profile Currency (Currency selected by individual or team)
Depending on your campaign, other conditions may be available. These options may also be custom fields found in your Donation or Sign Up forms. By using custom fields you can add a range of conditions to apply to your payment routing.
Finally, it is a good idea to run test payments.

Adding custom conditions

Payment Routing is often used for specific organisational needs. Having the flexibility to develop custom conditions is a great feature within Raisely.
When selecting the conditions for payment routing, you will find various options in the dropdown. These options can only exist if there is a field for this data. Custom fields allow you to collect the specific data you need from donors and fundraisers, which you can use for payment routing conditions.
There are 3 categories in which you can add fields too. These include:
  • Donation - fields used to collect data from those who donate to a campaign via appeal or fundraiser - Found in Donation Form
  • User - fields used to collect data from new fundraisers who sign up to Raisely - Found in Sign Up Form
  • Profile - fields used to collect data from fundraisers who setup a new Campaign profile - Found in Sign Up Form

Add a Custom Field for payment routing:

1
Within your campaign from the sidebar, select Settings > either Donation Form or Sign Up Form (depending on the field category you need)
2
If Donation Form, select the Fields tab
3
If Sign Up Form, select either the User or Profile tab
4
Select Add New under Visible or Hidden fields, and under the Field dropdown select Create Custom Field
5
You can now enter the details for your custom field. Take note of the Field ID before you Save your changes.

Use Custom Field in Payment Routing:

1
Within your campaign, from the sidebar select Settings > Payments & Receipts
2
Select Edit on the Gateway Account you wish to edit conditions
3
Choose either Any OR All of the Following
4
In the conditions field, enter [field category].[fieldID]

Eg. If the field is a Profile field with the ID as chosen-charity, then you’d enter:

profile.chosen-charity
5
Select the rule (is, is not, exists, etc), and enter the field value. Note, a field label is not the same as a field value.

Eg. profile.chosen-charity IS madeupcharity
6
Save your changes

Common Use Cases

Many organisations will use Payment Routing for specific needs. But here are a few use cases we see commonly needing this solution.
Fundraiser chooses from a number of charities
Add a custom field in the Profile category, which provides a dropdown selection for the charity they want to support.
Different events have different stripe accounts (use on Community Hub)
Add a custom field in the Profile category providing a dropdown selection of the events people can enter/participate in
Different bank accounts for different countries (AUD, US, GBP)
Use Donation Currency OR Profile Currency default conditions
Single charity with sub-divisions underneath, with each having their own account
Add a custom field in the Donations category, which provides the donor a dropdown select of the division that relates to them.
