If your organisation processes donations through its own Stripe account connected to Raisely, you may be eligible for Stripe's discounted nonprofit processing rate. This discount isn't applied automatically, even if you entered your EIN or tax details when you set up your Stripe account. You need to request it directly from Stripe.
Please note: Stripe reviews every request individually and decides whether to approve it and what rate to offer. Raisely can't apply, guarantee or change your Stripe processing rate.
Who this applies to
This guide is for organisations that connect their own Stripe account to Raisely under Settings > Payments & Receipts > Gateway Accounts. Your processing fees are set by Stripe, and any nonprofit discount is managed between your organisation and Stripe.
Check if you're eligible
According to Stripe, to qualify for nonprofit pricing your organisation must:
- Be a registered nonprofit with valid tax documentation confirming that status
- Operate in one of Stripe's eligible regions
- Receive at least 80% of its Stripe payment volume from tax-deductible donations
Stripe doesn't count payments such as ticket sales, registration fees, membership fees, tuition or auction payments toward the 80% threshold. If you use the same Stripe account for events or ticketing in Raisely, keep this in mind. See Stripe's guide for the full list of eligible regions and criteria.
How to request the nonprofit rate
- Log in to your organisation's Stripe Dashboard. The request needs to come from your Stripe account's owner, so make sure the person applying has owner access.
- Go to Stripe's Fee discount for nonprofit organizations page and open the contact form to reach Stripe Support. Sign in with the login for the Stripe account connected to Raisely, then ask for the nonprofit fee discount.
- Include the following in your request:
- Your Stripe account ID (it starts with
acct_and is shown in your Stripe Dashboard settings) - The email address registered to your Stripe account
- Confirmation that at least 80% of your payment volume is tax-deductible donations
- Your EIN or IRS confirmation documentation (for example, your 501(c)(3) determination letter)
- Any supporting tax-exempt documentation
- Your Stripe account ID (it starts with
Tip: If you don't have owner access to your Stripe account, or the account was set up by someone who has since left your organisation, have the current owner transfer ownership in Stripe first. If you need help working out who owns the Stripe account connected to Raisely, contact Raisely Support.
What to expect
- Stripe reviews each request individually, looking at factors such as your country, business category, tax-exempt status and donation mix.
- Stripe decides whether to approve your request and the rate you receive. Rates can vary between organisations.
- Once approved, the new rate applies to future transactions on your Stripe account. It doesn't apply retroactively to past transactions.
For questions about your rate or the status of your request, contact Stripe Support directly.
After you're approved
You don't need to do anything else in Stripe, and your Stripe account stays connected to Raisely as usual.
If your organisation uses Raisely's bundled fees, you may need to update the Stripe percentage in your Raisely payment gateway settings to match the rate Stripe approved.
