Setting Up Regular Giving (Donation Forms)

Regular giving is configured within your Donation Form settings. Before you begin, ensure you have Stripe set up as your Payment Gateway account, as PayPal does not support this feature.
To set up your donation form for Regular Giving, simply:
1
Within your campaign, from the sidebar select  Settings > Donation Form
2
Under  Donation Frequency you can Add/Remove/Reorder payment period options, including weekly, monthly, 4-weekly, fortnightly, quarterly, and yearly. Note, removing a payment period will remove this option altogether on your donation form.
3
Add your  Button Amounts below for each of your ‘Donation Frequencies’
4
Select  Save Changes

Add Regular Giving Upsell to Donation Form

Raisely allows you to add an upsell option to your Donation Forms, encouraging one-off donors to consider regular giving. To activate the Donation Form Upsell, simply:

  1. Within your campaign, from the sidebar select Settings > Donation Form > and select the Regular Giving tab;
  2. Here you have two options:
    1. Switch On 'Upsell to a monthly donation' which adds a new step to your donation form, encouraging the one-off donor to consider regular giving.
    2. Switch On 'Regular Giving Nudge', which adds a simple upsell message to your Donation Forms first step.

Each option when activated allows you to edit the message that appears to the donor.

Managing Regular Givers

Raisely makes it simple and easy for you to manually make changes to your regular giver's settings. Through individual campaigns or the Raisely CRM, you can easily find your regular donors and make any necessary changes. To view your donor information within a specific campaign, simply:
Select  Donations from your campaigns sidebar where you can search for or filter down for recurring donations.
To view and Edit  your donor information, simply:
From the dashboard sidebar, select  People, where you can search for specific individuals, or use tags and segments to fine-tune your list.
Under  Regular Donations, you have the ability to change – donation amount & currency, billing date, payment frequency, payment details, or move donation to a different campaign or profile.
To note, Raisely has an automated message available that will notify campaign admins when Regular Giving is cancelled.

What can the Donor Manage?

Regular Giving donors can also manage their own donation settings when they login into Raisely. Login can be accessed via the campaign site or a direct link is available to them via the welcome email. If a donor loses this email, you can simply resend them a receipt that will provide their account link.

Once logged in, they will be able to modify their regular giving settings including the amount and frequency of the regular giving donation, as well as pausing or cancelling it.

They will also able to update the card to be charged for the regular giving donation, along with their general account settings (details, password, etc).

Communicating with Your Regular Donors (Messages)

There are 5 Automatic Messages in which you can configure and activate, including:
  • Regular Donation Welcome - sent to new regular donors when the subscription starts
  • Regular Donation Receipt - sent when regular payment has been processed
  • Regular Donation Failing - sent if payment has been declined, advising that payment will be processed again in 3 days (ref. Payment Failed)
  • Regular Donation Failed - sent if payment has been declined again (ref. Payment Lapsed)
  • Regular Donation Cancelled - sent to Campaign Admins when regular donor cancels their subscription
To set up and customise these Messages, simply:
From the sidebar, select Messages > Automatic
Personalise each of these messages with your header and copy to support the best experience for your Regular Givers.

You can also include a button that redirects Regular Givers to a page where they can manage their regular giving. Within the button, you can add the following URL:

{{campaign.url}}/account/donations?access_token={{donation.user.accessToken}}

# What happens when regular payments fail?

Raisely determines if the failure was a "hard" or "soft" failure. A soft failure is something like insufficient funds. We expect we can continue to charge the card again, so we'll re-attempt a charge again in the next few days.

If the card has been cancelled then we'll record a "hard" failure. This happens if the account was closed, or the card reporting lost/stolen. We can never charge a cancelled card, so we won't re-attempt the donation.

## expand

# What is the process for soft failures?

The regular donation's status is changed to ‘Retrying’, and payment is attempted 4 more times every 3 days. If the charge is unsuccessful, the donor will receive an email message

If donation still fails, status is changed to ‘Failing’ and payment is attempted 2 more times over 2 weeks

If the donation still fails, the status is changed to ‘Failed

# What happens if a regular donor's credit card expires?

Raisely and Stripe don't send emails when cards expire, because we don't need to! Stripe works directly with the card-issuing networks to continue to bill cards even after they expire (as long as they are still active).

While we still ask for a card expiration date when they sign up, this is used primarily for fraud protection.

# If I archive a campaign, what happens to the regular donors?

If you have a campaign that has been receiving regular donations, and you archive that campaign, regular donations continue to be processed as normal. Though, due to the campaigns URL now being inactive, the donor will no longer be able to access their account on the site to view/edit their donation records. If you create a new campaign that uses the same URL as the archived one, donors will again be able to access their account information.
