Messages: Setting Up Emails

Sending timely email communication is a foundational piece in all campaigns, helping you build short-term wins & long-term relationships with donors and fundraisers. Whether it is a receipt that says thank you or a motivational welcome to new fundraisers, Messages play a big role in campaign success. This guide will explore Setting Up Emails, helping you to create, fundraise, and grow. Let’s explore…

Overview of Raisely Messages

Raisely Messages enables you to send emails and SMS text messages to donors and fundraisers, helping you communicate at timely moments.
Messages work with the data available in the Raisely Supporter Management Tool (People), and they can be created within specific campaigns or work across all campaigns.
When creating a new campaign, it will come with default automatic email messages that you can customise to your needs. To access more features, such as the creation of new messages, SMS text messages, segmentation, and journeys’, you will need to upgrade to Raisely Pro.
For more information, check out the Raisely Pro: Should I Upgrade?.

Default Automatic Messages

Raisely comes with 12 Default Automatic Messages that can be used within each campaign. These automatic messages cover the necessary communication needed for certain campaign moments, such as when a donation is made, a fundraiser signs up, or a ticket is purchased.
These Messages can be customized, allowing you to change the sender and subject line, and email content.
Check out the Default Messages Explained guide for more details.

Raisely Pro Feature - Creating New Messages

With Raisely Pro, you can create unlimited Email messages, unlocking the ability to send to any audience you want. You also have a range of automatic triggers available, and also the option of sending manual messages, giving you control over how and when the email is sent.

To create a new message, simply:

1
Within your campaign or from your account, select Messages from the sidebar
2
Select Create Message (top-right)
3
Use the dropdown to copy your email from an existing Message, speeding things up for you
4
Select either Triggered email or Manual email

Triggered emails are sent automatically when the user performs an action (registering, donating, changing profile, etc) whereas with manual emails, you are the trigger, selecting send email in the final step or scheduling the email for a specific time.

5
Choose to send via Email or SMS and add email to a pre-existing Journey if required
6
Finally, give the Message a name and select Continue.

Steps: Audience, Triggers, Sender & Subject

When setting up Messages, there are 5 steps: Audience, Triggers, Sender & Subject, Content, & Go Live. Here we’ll explore the first three…

Step 1 | Audience

Audiences are pre-assigned for Default Messages.  Additional recipients can be added, with the options of All Admins or a Custom Email. Note that you can only add one custom email as an additional recipient.
Raisely Pro Options
Raisely Pro subscribers can change the Audience, selecting from Fundraisers, Team Leaders, Organisation Owners, Donors, Everyone, Segments, or a custom interaction.
Alongside this, subscribers can filter the selected audience by adding conditions based on the audience's data. Simply select the + icon to add conditions.

Step 2 | Triggers

Triggers are not required for manual messages, nor able to be changed without Raisely Pro.

Select the event in which triggers the Message being sent. You can set the timing of the Message (Instant or Scheduled) and the trigger event.
Trigger events are found in the dropdown, and will be specific to the audience you are sending to. Eg. If your audience is Fundraisers, then the New Fundraising Profile event is available.

Step 3 | Sender & Subject

Enter your Sender Name, Sender Email, and Subject. You have the option of applying the same Sender Name & Email as default for all messages.

Step 4: Customising Your Message Content

Raisely's Email Builder gives you the flexible tools to get creative and clever with your email content. Using the simple Drag'n'Drop builder, you can update the Body settings (styles, margins, and more), add various Rows to the content, and fill those rows with the Blocks you need.
You can also access free images from Unsplash directly from the builder!
Let's walk through the basics so you can know your way around...

FAQs

### accordion

## expand

# I don't see the option to change my audience or triggers. What am I missing?

Audience and Triggers can only be updated (and seen) with Raisely Pro users. The default messages have the audience and trigger already preset, based on the emails purpose.

# My test email won't send. What have I missed?

There are two common reasons for test emails not sending. The first is the system cannot find the data that the email needs to send. This may be an incorrect merge field used, or the PDF receipt is switched on but has not been setup, or you are trying to send a donation receipt test, but there are no test donations in the campaign. The second reason could be that the test email is in your spam folder, so check to see if it is there.

# I just hit Send on an email which I was not supposed to send. Can I stop the email?

Once you have selected Send, you cannot reverse the action.
